Demi Lovato has been through a lot in the span of a year or so but instead of lamenting about it, she is more proud than anything else! After all, the singer managed to successfully overcome any obstacle thrown her way!
While at the Teen Vogue Summit in Los Angeles, California yesterday, Demi spoke about her own experiences, delivering a very positive and inspirational message.
This also marked her very first big interview since her overdose in the summer of last year.
Chatting with Teen Vogue Editor in Chief Lindsay Peoples Wagner at the event, she shared: ‘I see in the mirror someone that has overcome a lot. I have been through a lot and I see a fighter. I do not see a championship winner, but a fighter and someone who’s going to continue to fight no matter what’s thrown their way… I love the person that I’m today. Over the past 5 years, I have learned life isn’t worth living unless you are living for yourself.’
Demi went on to argue that ‘If you are trying to be someone you are not, or you are trying to please other people, it is not going to work out in the long run. If you want to dye your hair purple, dye your hair purple. If you want to love somebody of the same sex, love somebody of the same sex. Be yourself and don’t be afraid of what people think.’
Another topic that she approached was body positivity as she revealed that she validates herself a lot and shows acceptance and gratitude when it comes to her body image.
Demi highlighted that she doesn’t lie to herself by saying she has ‘an amazing body.’
Instead, she just says that she is ‘healthy‘ and expresses ‘gratitude’ that she is strong and that she can do a lot with that body she has precisely because it’s healthy.
